Acoustic and development boutique Rocket Science GmbH has developed a technology that will shape the future of how the world experiences music. The new Reference Series devices are set to make waves within the music industry, with recognized music studios, audiophiles as well as limited high-end home cinemas among the first to be equipped with the new technology offering a solution to an acoustic problem that has long plagued music makers and lovers.

Richard from world-renowned German band Rammstein is part of the first to put Rocket Science’s groundbreaking audio solution to use. “The bass is the most critical part of an accurate sound playback”, says Rammstein’s lead guitarist, Richard Kruspe. But it’s also a part that can be very difficult to transfer, the bass content of music often sounding different to listeners (if not distorted), depending on the room they’re in, and the position they take in that room.
The physical problem that low frequency sound reproduction faces in rooms, has, until now, remained unsolved. Rooms have their own reverberation in the low-end, and the long fadeout of the reverberation covers up consequent music components, making the sound experience vague and inaccurate for listeners.
Musicians and producers have been aware of the physical phenomena, that makes it difficult for them to design deep sounds. Audiophiles have been longing for a solution solving listening inaccuracy in the bass range. Current solutions only treat the acoustic phenomena by working around the physical problem. By interfering with equalizer or data processing, they optimize a single listening position (also called sweet spot) within a specific space. Rocket Science’s technology takes a revolutionary approach by solving the physical problem at its root and actively cancelling sound reflections. As a result, the physical problem is erased, and the original music signal maintained. This enables a signal impulse fidelity, which cannot otherwise be achieved in rooms – not only at the sweet spot, but in the entire room.

Rocket Science is working with partners to integrate the technology in various products across industries. “While this technology is currently targeted at the professional market, we do not see why consumer audio products should be excluded in the future.“ says Christian Frick. “Our technology is pure software at its core. Most modern audio devices already have modern signal processing chips installed, which makes integration of software plug-ins a breeze.”
